Mahina Ray / Moon Ray

Mahina Ray was first identified on October 29, 2010 by Ryan Leinbach. Her wingspan was approximately 6-8 feet.

Mahina means the moon in Hawaiian.

Her namesake is dive instructor Luke Mason’s daughter who was born in March 2009. We were thrilled when Ryan Leinbach identified Mahina, the ray during a daytime snorkel and a full moon phase. She was not shy during the encounter and in fact entertained the snorkelers by breaching twice!

DESCRIPTION OF MARKINGS

She has a solid marking on her underside with 1x dot & 1x stroke to the right.
