Meet Dr. Lisa Marinho

Swim Guide

I grew up swimming in the waters of the Great Lakes and later in the ocean off California. I completed my Bachelor’s in Environmental Studies and a Bachelor’s in Biology at UC Santa Cruz. I completed my DVM with a thesis at Tufts University with an emphasis on conservation and wildlife medicine. My thesis studied mercury contamination and genetic diversity in common loon (Gavia immer immer) populations. I have always had a deep love of the ocean and a desire to help support biodiversity and the planet’s health. I find great joy in educating about the manta rays while getting to facilitate the amazing life-changing experiences that I see people have with us.
When I am not working for Manta Ray Advocates, I teach the Gokhale Method and yoga classes through my business, Body Vitality, and offer holistic animal care through Happy Pets. I enjoy snorkeling, playing didjeridoo, playing cello, singing, and tap dancing. I am grateful to be part of this fabulous crew.
