Frequently Asked Questions
How hot/cold does it get?
We enjoy mild weather year-round; the days are warm and sunny, during winter at night the temperature can drop to 65 F/18 C.
How far away are the vacation rentals from key locations on the Big Island?
- Airport: 10 minutes – rest assured we do not hear airplane traffic
- Beach: 15-min drive to Kua Bay which is one the most beautiful beaches on the island
- Downtown Kailua-Kona: 20 minutes
- Restaurants/Strip-Malls: 20 minutes
- Mini-Market/Gas: 5 minutes
- Grocery Shopping: 20 minutes
- Costco Warehouse/Gas: 15 minutes
- Volcano National Park: 2 hrs
- Tropical Rainforest: 1-1.5 hrs
- Tour around the island: 12 hrs with several stops
- Public transportation on this island is very limited and we strongly recommended renting a car. Hawaii island is mountainous (and large) at over 4,000 square miles. Not having a car will prevent you from enjoying the island to its fullest.
When can we check-in to our vacation rental
We aim to be home to welcome you if possible, unless it’s late at night or early in the morning (in which case we will give you instructions to check yourself in). The units are available to you through a keyless lock.
As a general rule, check-in is after 3pm, and check-out is before 11am. We’re happy to make exceptions when needed – just get in touch and ask!
All of our rental units have a private entrance, designted parking, great views and cooking facilities. Please read the description for each unit for specifics.
Interaction with guests
We generally distance ourselves from guests out of respect for your privacy. However, we live and work at our tropical treasure, so we’re often around. We love sharing our love of manta rays, ocean conservancy and marine life advocacy – so don’t hesitate to ask us about it if you’d like to know more!
If you have questions about the island, where to go and what to do, we’re happy to help. We want you to have an awesome vacation time!
Our primary means of communication is text, but do call us if needed.
What People Say About Our Kona vacation rentals?
Warm and Welcoming
-Millie stayed at the Penthouse, June 2019
“This was our first foray to the Big Island, and without knowing much of the area we definitely feel like we had lucked out! Close to Kailua-Kona and Kona Mountain Coffee (we stopped there a LOT), the place was a perfect first stop for all the sunny and water-based activities we wanted to do on the west side. Although many folks may want to be closer to the ocean, being up on the hill above town was nice at night being cooler and quieter away from the noise except the sounds of nature. Really nice set-up they have going on. Both Martina and Jim were accommodating and quick to respond to any questions we had. We even did the Manta Ray tour they run, which was amazing and we definitely recommend.”

Everything We Hoped For
“Martina’s place was everything my crew and I could hope for! Beautiful space with ocean view and everything you need (location, privacy, cleanliness, kitchen amenities, and soft coolers for daily use) to enjoy the Kona side of the island. Martina provided us with local tips and was only just a text away if any needs came up. The location to Kona airport (KOA), Costco, Makalawena & Kua beach, and local food/breweries were only about 10-15 mins away! Pro tip: if your crew is interested/considering swimming with the manta rays, Martina is your lady!”
