Jana Ray

Jana Ray was first identified August 8, 2011 at Manta Village by Dane Knezek. She was a young pup with a 3 foot wingspan.

She quickly learned lights equal food. She isn’t as graceful as the larger mantas but she has never been afraid of “close ups” with the snorkelers and divers. She is now a regular at Manta Village, coming almost every night to feed.

Met Jana on a very memorable tour with Fair Winds last night. She rubbed her underbelly up against me while feeding. She felt rougher than I would expect. I wonder if she liked making the swimmers squeal with delight!

This makes us very happy to hear about “squeals with delight”!! The mantas speak for themselves and are simply impressive, aren’t they? 😊😊

I am absolutely in love with Jana Ray! She seemed to love being as close as she could be to us. I was lucky enough to be adjusting my mask and mouthpiece when suddenly she was right there brushing up against my hand. Scared the bejesus out of me at first since I didn’t see her, but then I felt sheer delight having had the chance to be that close to her. She never stopped her barrel roll belly glides past us. She’s my new spirit animal!!! 😍
