Dionne Ray

Dionne Ray has been spotted only a few times and one of those was in 2010. She was very shy and got spooked when approached but she was close enough to confirm her gender as it was still unknown.

During the Kickstarter campaign for Martina Wing’s children book “Notch, the rescued dolphin” we connected with Douglas Miller and learned about the sad news that namesake Dionne Miller had passed away in December of 2016. Douglas stated: “My wife and that manta are connected and inseparable. She always considered manta Dionne her fish sister and loved her so much.

Douglas wondered if there was a way to bring Dionne Ray into the storyline as he knew that it is full of real-life characters like Big Bertha, Waimanu, and Laverne. What a fantastic idea and we are thrilled that Dionne Ray made it into the opening pages of the book. Can you spot her?

Thank you Douglas for this beautiful idea as these full-circle moments spark more motivation and enthusiasm to continue our work for the mantas and the ocean!
