Black Diamond Ray

Black Diamond is a beautiful male manta ray that Kerstin Windberg saw for the first time on June 26, 2019 at Kauna’oa Bay. He was a pup with 3 feet but grew to already 4-5 feet.

He was very shy and not easy to approach so we were lucky to get a picture of his markings. He is gorgeous.

We went on a tour in April where Black Diamond was caught on a dive line. We just wanted to check back and see if he was ok and has been spotted since April 23???!

Hi, thanks for checking on Black Diamond. We saw them in April 2023, and then again in July twice. One 07/08, he had a fishing hook in his cephalic fins with line trailing. On 07/21, he was spotted again and still had the hook, but the fishing line was cut off. Not sure who removed it. The hook will eventually rust out, but it is always concerning of what any fishing gear does to the animals. We know that mantas feel pain: https://mantarayadvocates.com/do-mantas-feel-pain/
